Jackson had a rough night on Wednesday. His oxygen kept dropping, he required more and more BiPAP support, and early Thursday morning the docs made the decision to re-intubate him. He was not as sick as he was when he was intubated two weeks ago because he was not septic, thank goodness.
The upside of being intubated (if there is one) is that it is safer to transport Jackson throughout the hospital. So, the docs were able to order more tests after the second intubation, which included a CT scan of his head and a full body MRI to try to detect the source of infection. The results of both the CT scan and the MRI did not, unfortunately, reveal a source of infection.
Jackson’s ventilator settings have been reduced over the past few days, which is good. He is eating through an NJ tube (a feeding tube that goes into his nose, through his stomach and into his intestines). He hasn’t eaten regularly over the past five weeks and he is sometimes off his feeds for a few days at a time when he gets really sick. His feeds just started again. My hope is that Jackson stays healthy enough so that he eats for at least the next few days, if not longer, which should help build up his strength and make him healthier.
Thank you, as always, for the continued support and prayers.
