Update

Jackson continues making positive forward progress. He is down 6.1 pounds over the last 48 hours! This is all extra fluid that he retained when his kidneys stopped working. I heard on Saturday that he was fluid positive eight liters! So, he’s come a long way over the past few days and he’s starting to look more like himself.

Jackson also turned red at the end of last week and stayed red for a few days. No one was really sure why. However, I’m happy to report that he does not look red anymore but looks more like his normal skin tone.

The docs are talking about removing the breathing tube tomorrow. The plan is to go from the breathing tube back to the BiPAP machine. I’m very nervous but trust that the doctors know what is best for Jackson.

I also have a tip for anyone who ever gets intubated (hopefully you never have to use it). One of our friends got Jackson a very cute alligator from the Children’s Hospital gift shop, which he received before he was intubated. The nurses have very effectively used the alligator prop up the breathing tube. So, I recommend the alligator if you ever know someone in a similar situation.
