It’s a marathon, not a sprint.

We are on Day 19 in the PICU. We’ve been here so long I’ve had to cut Jackson’s fingernails. We’ve been here so long our parent bed now has a comfy blanket from home on it (We have never brought blankets from home before). We’ve been here so long we are on our second group of resident doctors.

Jackson started having seizures Sunday evening, which do not make for good forward progress (Jackson has seizures daily when he is healthy. We don’t usually see seizures when he is super sick in the PICU. He tends to seize when he is getting better; however, I wish he was a little healthier before he started seizing this time around). He spiked a fever last night and today. The fever, combined with the seizures, made him go up slightly on his BiPAP settings.

Jackson left his hospital room today to get a CT scan of his lungs. This was his first outing in almost three weeks. It took my husband, my dad, a nurse, a PCA, a respiratory therapist, and a doctor to transport him. The trip went well and the scan does not show anything to cause additional concern. It’s just going to take time for him to get better.

Again, we can’t express how much we appreciate all of your support and prayers. We feel blessed to have such a strong community of support, especially during this stressful time.

  1. This is not the good kind of marathon! Sigh. I hope you’re getting some time out of the room. I get so claustrophobic and depressed after awhile. Hugs and prayers.

    • I’m streaking so I’m able to get outside for a run when someone else is here to sit with Jackson. I’ve never been so thankful for my streak because it gets me out of the hospital room.

      • Oh good! I did that , too , before I got injured and had to stop. It was a much needed break. But isn’t it pretty cold there ?

      • I don’t think so at this time. I’m so busy. Trying to finish out these last few years of homeschooling with my two youngest and get them ready for life. How was Jackson’s day today? and yours?

  2. CT scan great news God bless Jackson and your entire family and team thinking of Jackson often and sending more prayers for your beautiful son🙏
