Watching Grass Grow

Being at the hospital this inpatient stay is like watching grass grow, only more stressful. We sit at the hospital, watch the monitors, talk to the doctors and wait for Jackson to get better. Some days he seems to get a little better and some days we take a step back.

Today is Day 16 and we are not making much progress toward getting off BiPAP. We have tried unsuccessfully to ween a few times so we are now taking it very, very slow. The doctors tell us it’s going to take a while for Jackson’s lungs to heal.

Jackson looks good today and if he maintains his oxygen saturation and respiration rate, we will decrease his BiPAP pressures. If he does well at the lower pressures throughout the night, he may get an NJ tube tomorrow. The NJ tube goes in his nose, through his stomach and into his intestine. They would do this so he can start eating through his gut and not the PICC line.

I got to spend time at home last night and cuddle with Luca and Rex, which I needed. Luca and Rex are pretty much always in a good mood, enjoy life and don’t carry any stress around. It’s a nice break from the hospital.

There’s not much to do at the hospital but it’s hard to get anything done. In order to pass the time, I’ve been playing the ukulele when Jackson is awake. It seems to be relaxing. My two new songs are Can’t Help Falling in Love by Elvis Presley and Walkin’ After Midnight by Patsy Cline.

Keep the prayers coming. We are hoping to take a few steps forward over the next few days. As always, we appreciate all of your support.

  1. Love Patsy Cline! I bet Jackson really enjoys you playing for him… he has an awesome support crew! Hang in there / stay strong!

  2. You and your family are always in my thoughts and prayers. I love the new songs you play for Jackson. You are a wonderful parent.

  3. Praying for you. You can always stay with me on Milton Street. I can take care of the pup. I can bring food to you. You can grade papers for me:)
