We are still here

Today is Day 14 of our inpatient stay. Jackson is taking baby steps to getting better. He is still in the PICU and still on BiPAP. He had a window off the BiPAP this morning and it went okay. We are not doing anymore windows today. Jackson has to be completely off BiPAP for 24 hours and doing well in order to be transferred out of the PICU. Jackson’s lungs sound better than they did a few days ago; but it’s going to take a while for his lungs to get strong enough to be off BiPAP.

Jackson has been on a mix of antibiotics since we’ve been here. Antibiotics are great when treating bacterial infections but they have a very negative effect on his bottom. The skin team was called in to assess his bottom and we now have a three step plan to deal with the raw skin down there.

Jackson has been very fussy the last two days and he has vocalized to tell us that he doesn’t feel good. This is a positive because for days he did not make any noise. He has also started moving his arms and legs a little, which is an improvement from not moving at all. We are still waiting for him to start looking at us and smiling.

Another member of the family had to be rushed to the emergency room this week. Our cute little puppy stole a chocolate bar and swallowed it whole yesterday morning. After confirming with the vet that he did, indeed, need to be treated, my dad took Rex to the vet where he was given medicine and vomited the bar back out whole. Rex has recuperated and is doing just fine. We are committed to keeping all of our family members healthy and happy.

I anticipate being here another week. We are tired but we will carry on. We greatly appreciate all of the support and prayers.

  1. Sorry it’s taking so long . No one wants to be there! Are they giving probiotics? I was surprised last time Grace was inpatient, I asked for them and they agreed ,no problem.
