As of Wednesday morning, we only had to worry about Jackson’s lungs. For every inpatient stay we have ever had, we have only ever had to worry about his lungs. I never contemplated that I would have to worry about all of his organs but it happened on Wednesday afternoon and life became almost unbearably stressful.
Thursday was a rest day for Jackson and not much happened. Friday the goal was decreasing his blood pressure meds as getting his blood pressure under control was the first item of importance. The team was able to successfully wean a blood pressure medicine and reduce the other one. After that occurred, we shifted from blood pressure to kidneys. His kidneys had stopped working and he had not peed in more than 48 hours. He was getting super puffy like a marshmallow.
Yesterday evening they were able to start giving him diarrhetics and we nervously sat for hours and literally watched his urine output. I am very happy to tell you that the diarrhetics worked and he started peeing!!!! I never knew how excited I would be to see urine but it happened yesterday.
He’s still extremely swollen and has a long way to go to get back to his baseline but he’s headed in the right direction. Jackson is still intubated but they have been able to reduce the ventilator settings a little.
We decorated his hospital room yesterday to give it a little pizzazz. I hung up a get well card from Jackson’s classmates and we developed pictures of a happy Jackson and put them around the room.
